OUR BOXING CANADA A-TEAM: by brian w. zelley
*It has been an interesting journey for our boxers over the 2011/2012
year of activity. For two, there will be more action in London for
the 2012 London Olympics. Congratulations to Custio Clayton and Simon Kean
for making it through the final gate to reach the starting point for Olympic
boxing in London.
For the other boxers, it has been an interesting journey for them over many
years and along the way they achieved much a wrote their own page for
the history of Canadian amateur boxing. As a member of the current team
and a member of past Provincial and National teams, each boxer has his
own story that takes us back to where it all began for them in one of many
boxing clubs scattered from British Columbia to Nova Scotia. Along the
way there were many club shows, provincial, national and international
tournaments. Along the way as they travelled down the boxing road,
there were many coaches to guide them, many club and team mates
to be part of the journey, many opponents to test them and many
officials to ensure their safety and assist in their rewards of victory.
BEYOND TOMORROW:
*Beyond the recent tournament in Rio, and the Olympic action
in London, it will be a new beginning for them when the sun rises
in September and may it shine on their paths to guide them down
the roads of their choices. But, for today it is thanks for the memories
that you have provided.
